Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@quintesmarthomes.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The products from brands like Control4, Triad or Fraser Shading are custom-fit for your home and configured to provide you with the best quality imaginable. Since there is strict and tight quality control, you will not find these in stores that sell mass-produced and quick DIY smart home products because they are highly trusted and known for their quality. To carry them, we undergo rigorous training and inspection to both sell and install them.

Every client, home, and product needed for installation is unique, and no order has ever been the same. For example, suppose you inquire about home security. In that case, we need to know the number of exterior doors there are, interior doors, the number of windows, how many levels the home is, how large the house is, if you have pets or children, what your lifestyle entails, etc., before we can recommend a package for you. For example, if you have pets, we know to offer you a quote with a security sensor that can detect your animal so that you're not getting notifications all day about an intruder.

Technology can be fun and serve as a useful way to enhance your day-to-day activities. The best part about Quinte Smart Homes is that we design and install everything for you and use Control4. Control4 is designed with user needs in mind and has a simple screen with visual cues to help you activate your technology. lt's all on one platform rather than needing to use and sync 10+ different apps.

If you want to avoid a screen, you can have preprogrammed scenarios integrated with a keypad (like a light switch) on your wall or voice activate your products. For example, you can click a "house on" keypad button to increase the temperature, open the lights and unlock the doors.

After installation, Quinte Smart Homes provides tutorials to show you how your technology is customizable and set up for you to use easily. If any questions or technical bugs come up, you can simply call or text us, and we can usually troubleshoot and fix the problem remotely from our end. If we are unable to, we will let you know about an on-site visit.

Before looking at any products, start with a strong Wi-Fi network. A smart home is a connected home; if the network is not strong enough, your products won't work. When we come in, we consider many factors beyond smart products, like the square feet of your home, your lifestyle and your budget. Network stability and strength are critical, and you should never settle for sub-par wireless performance. If your network is not strong enough, we will install and set up networks and smart products so they work together with high speeds, reliability, and consistent performance.

When the power goes out, you cannot use your fridge, washing machine or lights. If you have a product such as an automatic door that needs a pin code and the power is out, safeguards are available to have a backup physical key to unlock a door.

However, Quinte Smart Homes can keep your devices working during the next internet outage. We do this by using ZigBee to connect your appliances and smart technology. To explain it simply, ZigBee is a private network inside your home to connect your smart devices. Within your home's connected radius, all linked devices will continue to transmit information to each other even if your internet goes out. That's the beauty of a professionally-installed smart home.

With 40% of Canadians having privacy concerns regarding smart homes, we know privacy is critical. Connecting your smart home system only through the internet will open your home to risks, especially with mainstream products that are rushed to the market. That's why Quinte Smart Homes uses ZigBee to ensure devices are connected to a local private network. Your smart devices can still communicate with each other without requiring the cloud. In addition, we use products from Control4 and Snap One, which do not sell or rent your personal information to third-party companies and only use data to improve their products. In most cases, the benefits and conveniences of a smart home outweigh possible risks through automated locks, sensors, security cameras, and home automation tailored to your lifestyle. You can further read about Control4's privacy policy directly on their site.
