Client Spotlight: Revitalizing Worship Spaces and Connection through AV Upgrades with Selby United Church

A church serves as a sanctuary for worship and a space to embrace and foster connections among community members who share a common faith.

This spring, Selby United Church contacted us to enhance its audiovisual system and altar, focusing on upgrading its visuals and projector screen for seamless video presentations and facilitating hymn-following by guests. They were also working with S & J General Contracting to modernize the interior design upgrades, including the ceiling, the flooring and walls.

The Challenge

Selby United Church had a projector screen already. However, a common challenge with projector screens is when the clarity of the displayed visuals is reduced or washed out from excessive light. The church is hugged by ten expansive 10-foot stained-glass windows welcoming natural sunlight into the building.

The Solution: ALR Projector Screen

Rather than block the windows with automated shades, we upgraded their projector screens with five ambient light-reflecting (ALR) wall panels custom-sized and installed for the church.

These ALR screens showcase vibrant and deep visuals, eliminating the need to dim the lights or close window coverings. Best for commercial applications, the screens securely adhered to the wall brackets on the lath and plaster walls and took an average installation time of just three hours.

Projector

The accompanying projector that we used for these panels is the long-throw laser Epson Powerlite Projector. Ideal for businesses and education, this projector displays up to 500″ and has an attractive maintenance-free 20,000-hour laser light.

Lighting

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by a grand wooden cross. We installed floor-to-ceiling LED strip lighting to illuminate the cross, complemented by custom-sized lighting positioned behind it. This lighting adds a final touch to the church to spotlight its symbol of worship

Electrical Wiring

Finally, the altar was rewired with 120 volt receptacles under the stage so the Pastor and members could plug in and use their own technology without running extension cords across the stage. Our sister company, Davidson Electrical Services, made this transition smooth and easy.
